“So let’s go ahead and enable spam assassin I will show you how it works so in your control panel, go ahead and on the mail icon link and then in the mail manager Main menu, click on the Spam assassin link. As you can see straight away the current status by default is that Spam assassin is disabled, spam box is disabled. The first we were going to do is go ahead and configure spam assassin, it says here are required to rewrite subjects, now this is the good thing about Spam assassin is it that when it thinks them an e-mail is spam it will tag the subject line of your e-mail, so for example if I put in here *spam* when the mail comes through the web server if the web server thinks that Spam it will tag the word *spam*on the front of the subject. Very handy because as the e-mail reaches your e-mail client you can easily put in a rule in there to say hey this is spam just move it to the spam folder and I’ll check it later. The way Spam assassin actually works is it works on score the default score is five. You guys can spend the time to have a read through all this and see exactly how scoring works and how it set up. I’m just going to show you how to get it quickly turned on and go from there. So there you go the first thing I’ve done is to set my rewrite subject header to the word of my choice *SPAM* we will go ahead and save that, settings have been saved let’s go back. And simply all we have to do is enable spam assassin by clicking this box here, then we get the confirmation that Spam assassin has been enabled and here we go Spam assassin is now enabled . So it’s as easy as that as e-mails come in if the server thinks that they’re are spam based on their score they will be tagged as spam for you to do with as you like when the mail hits your e-mail client. Very handy very useful but I suggest that you have a read up on Spam assassin to see how the scoring works and to see how you might want to tweak it from there.”
